Kei te pehea koe?

We are all very harikoa!     We are all very happy because…...

Do you remember the flags that we designed and sent off to Mr Key?

Well…. yesterday we received a letter from John Key  telling us that we had done a superb job of designing them.

We had  invited him to come and see us in the Afternoon Programme and he thanked us for the invitation and said he might be able to come one day when he is in Christchurch.

Luke U wanted to know if he had chosen his flag for New Zealand's new flag….we will just have to wait and see!!

Aieshar had a birthday this week but we haven't  celebrated it yet as she has been away. We hope that she will be back on Monday so we can sing' Happy Birthday 'to her.

We had two visitors this week from Aru Atu. They wanted to see what Aieshar did in the Afternoon programme so they came and spent the afternoon with us.
We were telling them that on Tuesday we were going to have a musical afternoon and they said that they were in the school orchestra…..they went and got their instruments and played to us.

Thank you Lilly and Milly.

Wow ….we were impressed with their talents.

Pikelets were on the menu yesterday…we are getting SO good at cracking eggs.

Great job Aaron!!

In goes the flour...

Master chef  Luke in action!!

Aaron you are going to be a whizz in the kitchen….

Good try Luke...

Good work Ethan!

Well that is it from us for this week…enjoy your weekend. Lets hope the sun is going to shine.
The days are getting longer so spring must be on its way!!!

We are back!!!

Kia ora everyone…we are back from our holidays.

Did you enjoy your holiday?
We enjoyed ours!

It is wonderful to be back in our Afternoon Programme team and it was action first day up when we opened the ginger beer that we made last term.

Oh no….we opened this bottle too quickly and the gas inside  come very quickly to the top and went everywhere!!

Gently does it Gabby….

I am a wee bit nervous about opening my bottle….

It was fun opening our bottles but some of us were just a wee bit nervous  about it after Gayle's explosion!!

We took our ginger beer home to taste.

Most of us enjoyed the fizzy part of our drink but one mum said it lacked flavour so next time we will have to put more ginger in.

Sad news…Aaron's teacher Mrs Campbell is not well so we all took a walk to her house to cheer her up with some spring flowers.

Mr Campbell was home for lunch so we got to meet him.
His name is Michael.

This lovely lady is Pam…she is Mrs Campbell's mum.

Here she is!!! Poor Mrs Campbell is on crutches. She has to be very careful when she is moving about.

Lucky us!!! We were all allowed to choose two lollies .
Thank you Mrs Campbell…we hope you get get better real quick so that we can see you at school again.

Big News….Our coins in the coke.

Oh my goodness…we have all decided that coke isn't good for our teeth as when we took the coins out of the coke the colour  had changed on some of the coins. It looked like the coke had started to eat the coin!!!!
So think twice everyone before you drink coke!!!!!

Yesterday we made a chocolate cake…it was really easy to make and  it was very delicious.
Poor Gabby was away so we have kept two slices for her.

Enjoy your weekend everyone.

End of Term 2….

What a term we have had as scientists.         We have done so much thinking and wondering about our experiments….sometimes we just couldn't work out why…it almost seemed like it was magic!!!

We had a chat about our favourites and the corny goo and volcano came out on top!

Unfortunately  we didn't  get to complete all of them so next term we will do the final one…a lava lamp.

This week we made ginger beer and we hope that it will be all fizzy by the time we get back to school.

Gayle and Rachel have got their fingers crossed that to won't explode while we are away!!!!!

First we had to grate the fresh ginger….it had an awesome smell…..

Next the sugar...

Then to dissolve the sugar...

You have to be very careful when doing this as the element is hot…..

Now to do the squeezing of the lemons…..

It was hard work!

Now to drain the mixture...

Adding the water…

Now to fill the bottles ...

Finally…we have completed our Maori colour blocks…..aren't they cool?
We think that we have made a superb job of them. …it is a great way for us to remember our colours.

Well that is it from us for the term.

We hope that you all have a fabulous holiday…for those travelling take care and for those staying at home enjoy your down time.

Lets hope that the weather is kind to us.

We also hope that everyone who has been ill these last few weeks gets better quickly so that they can enjoy the holidays…..especially Aieshar, Luke B and Aaron.

See you all next term!!!!!

Week 10

The term is rapidly coming to a close…only one more week to go and it will be the holidays!

In our team we have there is someone who is very excited about the holidays as he is going on a plane by himself to see his big sister…he can't wait!!!!

Our letter to our  Prime Minister John Key is completed and in the post….we are wondering what he will think of the flags that we have designed.

Gabby addressed the envelope for us.
We didn't need to put a stamp on it as it is free when you send a letter to the Prime Minister…..did you know that?

The birds are just loving our bird pudding that we have made for them.

Every day we put some out for them on our bird table.

We have been timing how long it takes them to fly in for the food.

Today it was only 5 seconds!!!!

Usually the wax eyes are first to come …that is until a greedy starling appears!!!

Today we made gluten free pikelets……we wish that the mixture had made more as they were so scrummy and we only got two each. We would have loved more!!!!
They were very easy to make. Some of us thought we could make them at home during the holidays .

Sifting the flour….

Breaking the egg…..

Melting the butter….

Putting the mixture in the frying pan….

Ready to eat…..

Enjoy your weekend everyone.  Let's hope that it will be stunning just like it has been today.

Rain, rain,go away…..

What a wet and miserable day we have today!!   Let's hope that it clears up for the weekend.

On Thursday it was Matariki….do you know what that is?

It is the time when Maori celebrate their New Year.

We had a story about it and found out about all the celebrations that happen at this time.
People get together with their whanau and eat delicious kai.

We iced and decorated star biscuits …the connection….The stars that appear at Matariki.

There was a knock at the door yesterday and in rushed a four legged friend…..Diesel!

Diesel belongs to Aieshar  and he came to visit us.  Aieshar talks about him heaps and wanted him to come and see us.
Four years ago we went to Aieshars house when Diesel was a puppy . He has grown heaps since then.
You should have seen him…he was so excited to see us all.
We had a question time with Aieshar about Diesel.

Aieshar's Dad and Diesel

Look at Diesels enormous tongue!

It was time to take our pot-pourri experiment out from the books where it has been for the last four weeks.

As scientists we were a bit disappointed at the result….   some of the petals had gone mouldy and we had to throw them out.    We wondered why that had happened but we couldn't explain it as they were in a very warm part of the room….right by a heater.     Mmm … we did wonder if some of the petals were damp when we put them in the books.

One result we were happy with was that they had a beautiful perfume .

We completed our 'Winter' art this week…..they are very cool. Come and have a look if you have time.
We also came up with some fantastic 'Winter' words to put with our art.

Keep warm everyone!

Here we are again….Bird pudding photos…..

team work …..

The next day……the mixture had set overnight so we took  it out of the containers .
Then we all went out to put the bird pudding on the bird  table.
Enjoy your dinner birds!!!!

Thanks Mary for coming in while Gayle has been away.

Will this be there on Monday?

We think that the birds will have had a wonderful time eating their  delicious food over the weekend and it will be all gone!!!

We also made gluten free chocolate brownie this week and it was just delicious !!
