Week 10...end of term!

Oh  my goodness...we all had to say goodbye and happy holidays yesterday because it is the end of term!

It has been fantastic receiving letters from our grandparents this term and hearing what life was like for them when they were our age.
We are sure that they all had a fun time when they were young but we think that we have more time to do fun things than they did.
Of course they were doing different things to us and perhaps it would be great for us to try some of them....but not the chores that they had to do!!!!!!!

This week saw the finale of our Grandparents recipes that they sent to us.
We made peanut butter biscuits that Luke U's Granny sent all the way from South Africa and on Thursday we had coconut ice that Jeremy and Aaron's Nan had when she was a child.
Both were very scrumptious!

Coconut ice...

Jeremy wasn't very keen on the coconut ice....

Aaron just LOVED his and was eager for more......

Luke hard at work creating his Granny's recipe......

Now for pressing down the ball mixture with a fork....

End product....

What do you think Luke?.......

What do you all think of our blossom trees?

Mary,  Mrs McHaffie, Rachel, Mrs Lawrence, Mrs Marshall and Gayle thought they we were all extremely talented.

We are VERY sorry that the photos aren't  the right way up....you will have to move your head or the lap top to view them correctly!!!!!!

On a sad note we had to have another burial yesterday.
Our only surviving frog passed away .
When Luke B heard the news he got  busy and made a stunning coffin, then we had a funeral  and buried him outside Learning Support.

Thanks Luke...we think that when you leave school you might be a joiner or builder!

Well everyone, until we meet up again on the first week back for Term 4 , enjoy the two week break....hope that the sun will shine and we can all get outside and have some good old fashioned fun....just like our Grandparents used to do.

See you next Term

Spring Art.....

Look at what we have created.....

It seemed to take ages to roll the crepe paper up into balls......

We are now creating a Spring picture......
We drew the trunk of a tree then used empty drink bottles that we dipped in paint to create blossom.
Next week we will finish them by adding daffodils to complete the Spring look!

We will have the final product for you next week.......
If you get a chance go to Harper Avenue at the weekend to see the blossom before it all disappears .

Spring has definitely arrived!!

Have you been to the Gardens and Harper Avenue to see the magnificent Spring display?

We have ....it was absolutely superb!

Christchurch looks fantastic in the Spring!

We just loved being amongst the daffodils ...they were so beautiful...but when we got to Harper Avenue oh my goodness what an amazing site. ....the blossom trees were just stunning!!

Climbing the blossom tree...

Having a chat on the way back to the car.....

Beautiful Harper Avenue.....

Then it was back to school to put our art  skills to the test.

We found a branch that we took the leaves off and then we got pink and white  crepe paper and made tiny little balls that looked like blossom.
Then we glued the balls on the branch and hey presto.....a branch filled with blossom!!

Photos to follow......

Enjoy your weekend everyone

Week 7

This week we have been thinking about how things are different today compared to when our grandparents were at school .

Here are a few things that we have come up with.....

They didn't have many toys......we have heaps!

They got the strap at school.....we don't!....Phew!!

They had to walk to school.....we come in cars

There was no TV.....some of us have a TV in our bedroom!!!

Movies were in black and white.....now they are all in colour

Money was called pounds and pence.....now it is dollars and cents

They had heaps of chores to do.....some of us don't have to do anything at home to help!

Each week we are baking a recipe that our grandparents sent.

This week we baked a recipe from Rachel's Nan called Rock cakes.

The ingredients were....butter, currants, peel, sugar , baking powder, egg, flour, and milk.

We mixed all the ingredients together, then put them in teaspoon lots on a tray.

They were scrumptious....thank you Rachel's Nan!

Measuring the flour ....

Rubbing the butter into the flour....

Beating the egg and milk together.....

Final mix...

Ready for the oven...

Enjoying Nan's rock cakes

Well Spring is finally here ...lets hope that the sun comes out for the weekend...especially for Fathers Day.

To all the Dads out there...have a fun day!
